  • New year, new dues

Aktion Club member dues will increase from US$5 to US$8 per member beginning with the 2014–15 year.  Information regarding this dues increase has been shared through District Administrators since it was decided over a year ago. Now that the increase is taking effect, this is a good time to go back to a basic question: Why increase dues?

    The two major reasons:
    • To fund new materials and resources, including the new member handbook and new advisor guide.
    • To cover ongoing expenses for administering the program. (Like the cost of so many things in the world, it goes up every year.)
Of course, plenty of thought and discussion goes into any decision to increase member dues. In fact, this is the first dues increase in Aktion Club's history. Ultimately, it was decided that a small increase would help support the program without imposing too much of a burden on members and sponsoring Kiwanis clubs.

Kiwanis' own commitment helps keep the dues increase at a modest level. Every year, Kiwanis International provides a major subsidy for Aktion Club and the Kiwanis International Foundation supports Aktion Club programs with grants. With the support of Kiwanis, our Foundation, and member dues, Aktion Club achieves sustainability—and club members get the high-quality materials and operations they deserve as members of the Kiwanis family.

  • A couple tips to prepare for 2014-15

The new Aktion Club year is almost here! As you get ready, listed below are a couple of reminders of what to address, and tips to help make it successful.

    • Board training. Confirm with the Kiwanis advisor the date to train club officers, board members, and committee chairmen. Determine the time and location of your training session—and make sure all involved are aware of this information. Approach a Key Club or Circle K club to assist with the training session.
    • Installation ceremony. Work with the club president to plan the ceremony. A suggested script is available from Kiwanis International. When scheduling, make sure it's on a date after you expect the member pins to arrive. An make it special—invite the Kiwanis governor and Aktion Club district administrator to attend the meeting and participate in the installation of officers
